I hated helping with dew claws and tail docks. The babies are so tiny and precious, it was just hard inflicting pain on them (especially for the elective tail docking). Great picture!

I can see where you are coming from Joy. From a medical perspective though, I can see justification for the procedure. At this age I do not think there are many nerve endings here and the tissue is pretty much fibrous/cartilage tissue which do not have very many pain receptors. Granted that there is some pain associated with the procedure, I think there is considerable pain later in life if the dew claw is ever injured. When you get that 90 pound lab that tears around the house and rips his dew claw off, that isn’t only a nightmare for the dog but for the owners as well. Therefore, I think the procedure is beneficial despite some of the ethical concerns. I, likewise, do not agree with tail docking. They were very cute puppies though! :)
