The Blue Shallow
A ripple for every moment

The Blue Shallow. Even though everything appears to be shallow and simple, there is so much more depth. The waters of life are more dark blue than anything. Nothing is transparent. There is so much more under the surface...

Lighter Menu Boxes

Wave 939

I figure I would document all the issues I have concerning my recent computer install. This can serve as a guide to future victims or myself in the event of another potential failure in the future.

I've had this issue intermittently with my computer. It is where some of the basic Windows programs (such as Notepad) have menu items (File, Edit, etc) that appear to have a lighter colored box around them. A quick google search found the cure. This is only a fix for Windows XP OS.

The best way to cure the menu box item issue is by going to Display -> Appearance. Here you will see your current color scheme. Provided that you are using the default color scheme, somewhere in the process of installing Windows or updating it one of the settings in your Advanced tab got a little screwed up.

To fix this issue, simply select the default color scheme to Default (blue). This requires you opening up the drop down box and re-selecting it. If it is easier to select a different color scheme and going back to the default than do that instead. Either way that should fix your issue. After re-selecting Default (blue) hit Apply or OK and your set.

Hope this helps somebody, because it was annoying me.

On a final note, I have a program recommendation. Shortly after re-installing most of my necessary programs to sustain daily living :) , I realized my computer was considerably slower than it had been before the "crash." This was fairly annoying considering that my computer was essentially a "clean" slate. So I downloaded a program from CNET's Download.com. The program is called Advanced SystemCare and it is an easy step approach to system clean-up and optimization. I performed 2 steps: Maintain Windows and Diagnose System and my system was instantly faster. I strongly recommend creating a Windows Restore Point in the event it deletes something important but I had no issues after re-booting my computer (besides the above noted issue of the menu items). Other than that it is simple, easy, and works. I'm not a big fan of programs modifying my computer settings but it really can save you time. Anyways, that is all for today.
