Cold
A ripple for every moment

Frigid sky scattered here and there. Shadows watch mountains who are not easily scared. Snowflakes fall as time stands still, while sun's warmth trembles under the treacherous chill. Depths run thin as the ice grows, and blue meets white in the blue shallow. Everything covered perfectly in a blanket, one that is cold and doesn't need to fake it.

3D Please?

Wave 923

Sunday

The 11th of January, 2009 at 01:26 PM

A convention called the Consumer Electronics Show is finishing today as many companies are itching to make their mark. The one that stuck out most to me (no pun intended) was Panasonic's unveiling of a 3D Home Theater. After many news reports, blogs, and a chat with a Panasonic Representative, I'm unsure how soon the technology will be available to the general public. I've read that a release could be as early as Spring 2009 or as late as 2010. In either case, I am very excited but extraordinarily worried at the same time.

Here are my questions:

  • Will any plasma tv of appropriate resolution and refresh rate work with 3D technology? I'm not about to buy another tv and I will be terribly disappointed if my tv would not stand the test.
  • Will a 3D Blu-Ray player be necessary, or will patches be available for existing players? Sony was at CES as well with 3D games for the PS3. The question is whether or not Sony will provide firmware upgrades for their Blu-Ray player to play 3D movies.
  • When will it come out? The most important question.
  • How much will the battery-powered glasses cost?

According to Panasonic (Press Release), as long as you have a Panasonic plasma panel, a 3D capable Blu-Ray player, and the obvious 3D Blu-Ray disc - A 3D HD environment is entirely possible. And if Panasonic wants to keep their happy customers happy, hopefully they will find a way to make 3D technology available to everyone who owns their plasma tvs. Here's my New Year's wish :)
