Easter was almost a week ago now and I apologize for my tardiness. This last week has been very busy but I promise to make this post short.
Instead of barreling down my Easter agenda, I just wanted to focus on one thing. One thing which happened on Easter which surprised me.
This Easter I went to the Catholic Church for Easter mass. There were enormous amounts of people. In fact, I had never seen the church so overwhelmed with people. I walked in and realized that sitting space was a commodity. I walked down a side aisle looking for just a hint of pew space and found none. Before I knew it, I was at the front pew which was practically empty. I sat down and made myself comfortable. The mass was beautifully arranged with wonderful music. I stayed until the conclusion of the last song, at which point I turned around to find my whole section empty. I was the only person left in the section listening to the final song of the mass. A man from a different section came over to me. He shook my hand generously with a heart-wrenching smile on his face and said, "Thank you, have a Happy Easter."
As I walked out the doors of the church, I felt remarkable. I found it fascinating how such a simple gesture of courtesy could be so heart-warming. What was even more fantastic was how deeply rooted this man was in his faith.
Easter and Christmas are two holidays where church attendance gets a bump. These holidays are also times when family comes over, food is prepared, the house is cleaned, games are played, and plans are executed. However, often times people lose track of the meaning and significance of these holidays. No, this isn't about the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus. These holidays are the cornerstones of the Christian faith, representing the life and death of Jesus Christ.
When I found myself alone enjoying the Easter music, I realized that some people forget the importance of these holidays. Out of all the things that happen on Easter, spending time with God and Jesus should be the most important. It is the reason why we have this holiday.
I just found my Easter to be very enlightening and wanted to share it with all of you. I hope everyone had a happy Easter and break from all the worldly things.
