Cold

A ripple for every moment

Frigid sky scattered here and there. Shadows watch mountains who are not easily scared. Snowflakes fall as time stands still, while sun's warmth trembles under the treacherous chill. Depths run thin as the ice grows, and blue meets white in the blue shallow. Everything covered perfectly in a blanket, one that is cold and doesn't need to fake it.

Today is my brother's birthday. I learned last week that he was coming home for dinner with the family. To prepare for the evening, I bought 2 additional Wii Remotes so everyone could play Mario Party. Unfortunately, I was scheduled to be working at the emergency clinic. I decided to request the last couple hours off so I could spend more time with my brother. My request was granted and I was ready for the party.

To my surprise, I found out plans had already been made. Steve contacted me earlier today to let me know he was on his way home. He added that Alex could come over because some of his friends from Duluth would be coming over at 8:30.

I wasn't too happy after hearing the news. I was planning just a night with the family, maybe some board games with a little ping pong. It didn't seem too much to ask for one night with my brother before he goes back up to Duluth.

I guess the thing that really bothers me, is that these people are from Duluth... or so he says. I mean, if you see these people on a regular basis then can't you wait until you go back home on Sunday to see them? Originally, I thought there were going to be two or three people. Nope. About 8 people showed up as I made my way upstairs. He has more friends in this area than I have... and I live here.

The only point I'm trying to make is... that I just wanted to spend some quality time with my brother. Not with his friends, not watching him entertain his friends... just with him. This is really the only reason why I'm upset tonight.
