I'm generally a patient person. However, my patience expired last week when eating out at restaurants.
Friday's typically isn't the best place to have a small gathering, especially on Friday. Yet, we had a going away party for someone at work in this exact situation. Everyone ordered appetizers except me. An enormous amount of time past before the appetizers arrived. At this point, they didn't bring out breadsticks for one person, some fried green beans, my meal, and put the wrong salad in front of Kellie. Kellie asked for a new salad which took quite awhile to get. Me and the breadsticks lady waited as everyone ate their food. About 10 minutes later they brought out the breadsticks, 20 minutes later they brought out the fried green beans, and lastly... my dinner. With a few appetizers, breadsticks and one entree... I would think we would be in an out of Friday's in little over an hour. We were there over two and a half hours. On top of it, an 18% gratuity was added to everyone's bill despite the poor service. It explicitly says on the Friday's menu that you can raise or lower the amount of gratuity. So when I signed my credit card receipt, I gave the waitress a negative 2.00 tip. Don't think I'm a jerk, I still gave her a couple bucks, but I wasn't going to give her anything more than that.
Saturday I was at the Hilton in Minneapolis for a veterinary convention. I had a 2 hour lunch. It was very cold out and I didn't feel like walking the streets of Minneapolis looking for a place to eat. I decided to spend the big bucks on the restaurant in the Hilton, Skywater. I was planning on eating light because I was planning on going to Mall of America afterwards. I ordered a soup and a caesar salad. Simple... right? I guess not. About 30 minutes later I finally got my soup. They brought me a house salad with french dressing. I informed them that I ordered a Caesar. So I ate my soup and had to wait about 15 minutes for them to get my salad. They set it down and left. Before I could evaluate the situation the waiter left. I looked on the table and could not find a fork. I must have waited about 10 minutes for him to come back to the table before I could ask him for a fork. As you can imagine, I didn't tip him well either. In fact, I almost thought about not tipping but that is something I would never do... but I thought about it.
Don't get me wrong, I generally tip very well. I just had a terrible week of food service. Anyways, just had to vent.
