Rolling in Idle
Wave 855
Tuesday

The traffic slowed with red lights streaking the rain-washed roadways, I was on time. My eyes fixed in a forward position, my brain only functioning as a reflex machine. Driving, as it were, is so unconscious.
Fleeting images from a night of uncontrollable restlessness spotted my thought patterns as I carelessly changed lanes. Images of a blinding white room with a figure standing in the middle. The figure carrying a frame as large as a human but a face revealing something else. Cloaked with a brilliant red robe, only a bony snout was seen protruding from the hooded shadow. My thoughts couldn't turn away. Fear kept me awake, adrenaline kept me steady.
Maybe it was the 6 shots of coffee or the 14 hours of studying that kept my mind uneasy late into the night, but now it was morning. I was late. Time inevitably passed as the cars idled in the semi-polluted air.
Somewhere between idle and parking, my car carried me helplessly to school. I chose an expensive parking spot closer to school to relieve my legs of unnecessary walking.
I sat down as the minute hand slowly landed on the 2. Ten minutes after 8, my mind floating in a sea of nothing. I took out my pencil.
The minute hand caught the top curve of the three after the hour hand had taken a lap, my pencil hit the wooden desk. My legs followed my body as I dropped my exam in a brown cardboard box.
I left as silently as I came. My approach focused but apathetic. Tuesday is over.

Congrats. Breathe in deeply, then out slowly. You did it, you’re done, and now you can sleep. Go, go, go!!!!
