Prodigal Son

Genesis was very moving this week. Vicar Chad put together a very good message. I'm not going to re-tell the parable of the prodigal son or tell you what someone else thinks, but I'm going to pick it up at the end of the story...
The parable finishes with the father talking to the angry son outside of the house. He tries to persuade his son to come into the house and rejoice because his long lost brother has returned. The story comes to an end, leaving the reader with a choose-your-own-ending scenario. What would you do if you were the angry son? You worked so hard your whole life, to earn your father's respect... and your brother, who had destroyed your father's image and dreams, came home. And your father embraced him, forgiving him for leaving, forgiving him for disgracing his name and the family. What would you do?
I'm pretty sure I would still be mad, no matter what my father says to me. And that, that is wrong.
Your brother, who left the family and disgraced your father's name, has returned. He was gone for years, living some exotic life, why should you welcome someone so willingly? Someone who never had to work, never had to earn a living? Why?
Judgement is a powerful thing. This brother of yours went through extraordinary pains. He lost all his money, he lost all his friends, he lost his life. He had no money for food, he had to live out of dumpsters. He lived a life of desolation, depression, and loneliness. And the hardest thing for him to do, was go back to a place he disrespected, and back to a father he dishonored. He knew he had made a mistake and he suffered, terribly. He came back asking for forgiveness, and he was forgiven. Why can't you forgive him?
Who are we to judge? We don't know what kindof life our brother has had. We have all made mistakes, everyone. How is one mistake greater than another. How is one sin, greater than another. Our Father forgives us. No matter how many mistakes we make, He is there with open arms, running to us, welcoming us home. He loves us, He loves you. Run to Him with all your heart, because without Him, we would all be lost.

I’m pretty sure I am in love with how your brain works.
