My family came from out of town for the fourth of July weekend and holiday. I spent the majority of my time catching up and visiting with them over the past few days. Monday we went up to my uncle's cabin. We went tubing, shot a bb gun, shot fireworks, and had fun of course. Tuesday we stuck around the house, cooking up the 4th of July feast. We went over to another uncle/aunt's house for some drinks before the fireworks. Fireworks at Ojibwe were not as spectacular as last year's display, but still entertaining. The evening faded out with some good smore action in the fire pit. I'm glad my relatives could make it, it was a nice departure from the everyday grind.
My grandma went into the hospital on sunday. She had fainted in the bathroom. My grandpa couldn't lift her up so he got a neighbor to help get her to the hospital. She was fairly anemic again and the doctors were worried for another bladder infection. They gave her some antibiotics, vitamin supplements (because she hadn't been eating and had been throwing up the past three days, she failed to mention that to any of us) and IV dextrose. We visited her on the 4th. I brought my digital camera of the fireworks we shot off the night prior. I gave her a little fireworks display complete with sound effects. She looked good though, happy and getting healthier.
Then my grandpa went into the hospital wednesday. He felt weak and sick. Allina couldn't do anything for him and they brought him over to the hospital right away. They still don't know what is going on with him I guess. So now he is a floor below my grandma.
I have been praying alot for my grandparents and the people around me. This seems to be a tough time for everyone lately. I just hope everything works out for the best, for everyone.
Which leads me to the real meaning behind independence day. I guess I really never thought about it that much until it was brought up at church on sunday. I think alot of people miss the concept of independence and freedom when July 4 rolls around. I know it marks a day in history over 200 years ago, so some of the significance has been lost. I just want everyone to remember why this day is so special and why our past should not be forgotten.
I apologize for the lack of updates the past couple weeks. Life has been busy. I also apologize for the lack of dedication to this post, there isn't any fluidity or smoothness. I guess, that's what they say... when you try, you fail; when you quit trying and just let things happen, you succeed. Maybe no one said that and I just made it up. Wishing you all a very safe week and a perfect evening.
